Knights of Sidonia is Netflix’s FIRST Original Anime Series

Knights of Sidonia is a popular manga series by Tsutomu Nihei, published by Kodansha in Afternoon magazine and in English in North America by Vertical. And now, an anime series adaptation is available on Netflix.

The Knights of Sidonia is the first Netflix original anime series, and is part of the on-demand services’ effort to offer original content for its users. Here’s how the animated series has been described:

“The first Netflix original anime series, Knights of Sidonia, based on the popular manga series of the same name, follows Nagate, a low-born youth in a society of genetically engineered refugees who escaped the destruction of Earth one thousand years earlier and now occupy the massive ship Sidonia. When Nagate’s talent as a pilot is revealed he becomes one of Sidonia’s elite defenders against the Guana, shapeshifting aliens bent on eliminating humans from existence. ”

There are going to be 12 episodes of Knights of Sidonia with a premiere that took place on July 4 in all territories where Netflix is available.

Netflix has been putting a lot of pressure on its rivals with such TV shows and series as House of Cards, Orange is The New Black and comedies like Arrested Development and Turbo Fast.

Netflix has a very good strategy of releasing content that’s suited for a diverse audience and now see that it’s trying to appeal to anime fans with its newest original series, Knights of Sidonia.

The series had originally premiered in Japan in April of this year and Netflix bought the rights and debuted the game only a week after the finale in Japan.

The show has been in dubbed in English by famous voice actors like former Power Rangers and Trigun star Johnny Young Bosch.
