There yet another affordable Android tablet and it is quite unique at this time. This tablet device is developed by MIPS Technologies and it is called the Nova 7. The special feature about the device is that it is priced at just $99 and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. On the other hand many major manufacturers are yet to announce their new Android ICS based tablets.
It seems that even Google is excited about this tablet device as the Andy Rubin, Senior VP said,
“I’m thrilled to see the entrance of MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablets into the market. Low cost, high performance tablets are a big win for mobile consumers and a strong illustration of how Android’s openness drives innovation and competition for the benefit of consumers around the world.”
In regards to the specifications the Nova 7 does lack powerful hardware, but it is a great deal for such a small price. The tablet sports a 7-inch display and it is powered by a 1GHz single-core XBurst CPU from MIPS and also includes a Vivante GC860 GPU. It has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, there is no 3G, 2 megapixel camera, front facing camera (probably VGA camera), HDMI output and a microSD card slot.
The MIPS Nova 7 is currently available in China and available online through Ainol Electronics Co., Ltd. The device will be making its way to the US and other markets over coming months, however there are no specific dates announced. Hopefully, the device may make it to India.
