Microsoft Launches Kinect in India, We Get a Brief Hands-On

As anticipated Microsoft has finally launch the Kinect in the Indian market on the 24th of November, I spent some time with this Xbox 360 accessory and the games which are available with it. I do not deny that I had a lot of fun and it was a very unique experience, but I also had a few disappointments. So read on to know what I think about the Kinect.

Currently a total of 11 titles are available in the market, including Microsoft’s Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, Kinectimals and Kinect Joy Ride. Third party titles available in the market include Dance Central, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, MotionSports, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1, Fighters Uncaged, Sonic Free Riders and Game Party in Motion.

Jaspreet Bindra surely conveyed the message that Microsoft is going very strong with the Kinect and its introduction in the Indian market is an example. I asked Mr. Bindra about how Microsoft plans to get the Kinect to the Indian masses and his answer helped us conclude that the guys would be doing it online and not the good old TV and Newspaper way, as they are still to test the response from the market and yes Anusha, you should check out what “Geeks” did with the Kinect, that may give you something to think about.

The Xbox 360 Dashboard is fun to control with the Kinect, and the entire experience is just very different from using your controller. Sadly, the Indian consumers are yet not able to use voice commands with the Kinect and Microsoft says it is because of the different accent. Obviously the guys are working on it and voice recognition will surface sometime later. Although there is a slight lag at times, the response is really great and the lag does not seem to affect the gameplay. Now let me summarize the games Microsoft had at the launch ever;

Kinect Adventures:

Great game, one of the most fun and entertaining Kinect game available. I would always recommend our readers to play this game with your friends as the co-ordination is the most exciting part of this title.

Kinect Sports:

I am very disappointed with this title. I found it to be very buggy, as there was a moment where there was confusion identifying the active player and it looked like it lacks some finesse.

I was very excited about this game and I still am. The long story at start cost me some time so I was not able to go through various elements in the game, but it still looked great.

Kinect Joy Ride:

This game is super fun, again if you have a buddy along with you. No point going Han Solo on this one.

Dance Central:

This was the spotlight, and definitely a must have on the Kinect. I have to agree that I am really bad when it comes to dancing and I get too embarrassed, but I think Dance Central has the potential to get rid of those problems. A sad part of this story is that the guys did not have other third party titles, I was eager to check Fitness Evolved, so I asked around and KFP told me that it is a great experience.

I would like to let our readers know that the Kinect is a great device, it has various disappointments but I want to give this a chance to mature and I hugely anticipate it will. You already know the Microsoft games you should be purchasing and to conclude this, the price of the Kinect and Kinect Bundles is same as the pricing we mentioned in the Pre-Order Post. It is now available across various retail giants in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Leave a comment below and let us know whether you will purchase it or not.
