Android 7.1.1 Nougat factory images for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus 9
Owners of Android powered devices should be happy to hear that Google finally announced the release date for their latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The confirmation came directly from Google’s Vice President, Dave Burke and he said that all eligible devices that have compatible hardware will receive the update starting today. Google’s VP also included that among all of those devices the Nexus 6 and General Mobile 4G (Android One) will also receive the new Nougat operating system in the upcoming days and also to not forget that Android devices which were signed up for the Android Beta Program will be updated as well.
The news of this update first came when Google updated their support page to include the latest Nougat factory images for Google’s own Nexus and Pixel smartphones . One great thing about this update is that it doesn’t only include the new operating system, but also the latest December Android security patch. What’s great about the December patch is that it prevents hackers and malware from forcefully accessing the user’s phone and in this day and age, protecting personal information should be everyone’s top priority.
The following devices already have the Android 7.1.1 factory images: Nexus Player, Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus 9. The factory images can be downloaded directly from Android’s website. Reader’s should keep in mind that even if they can flash the new operating system on their mobile device, they should rather wait for the official OTA (over-the-air) update because flashing a ROM can be quite tricky and it also involves wiping the device’s memory.
The update log for Pixel and Pixel XL was posted by Verizon already and what’s interesting is that it also includes a bunch of bug fixes alongside hardware enhancements. Right now owners of eligible devices should keep their eyes peeled at their notification panel, because every moment now the update could become available.
