Xiaomi to launch limited edition DIY Wi-Fi router with 1TB storage

Chinese smartphone vender Xiaomi is well known for some its fine Android smartphones and it is all prepared to launch its very first and an unique DIY Wi-Fi router on December 19, it is called the MiWiFi.

The parts of this DIY Wi-Fi router will come in a numbered wooden case, which will include all the necessary parts to assemble this router. This is an engineers’ edition which according to Hugo Barra celebrates the “Christmas hacker spirit”.

A total of 500 units of the MiWiFi will be available on the day of a flash sale and Xiaomi will have two other sales later depending on the demand of this device. There is no word on the official pricing but the pack has a RMB 180 Thunder Platinum Membership card.


In terms of the internals, it includes a dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac connectivity option, a 1TB SATA drive, 1GHz Broadcom processor along with 256MB of RAM. The product description also suggests that users will be able to add their own antenna. It will come with two LAN ports and two USB 2.0 ports.
