Nexus 5X Eligible to Download Android 8.1 Oreo Update

We have some great news for Nexus 5X owners, Google confirmed that it plans on releasing Android 8.1 Oreo to it. Things get even better since eager Nexus 5X owners can get their hands on the update ahead of its release date by downloading the Developer Preview edition of Android 8.1 Oreo. This might not be as major of an update as Android 8.0 Oreo was, but it’s still nice to get it since it contains numerous bug fixes and security patches.

Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview

Worth mentioning is that even though this is the Developer Preview of Android 8.1 Oreo, interested users don’t actually need to be developers. All they need is an eligible smartphone such as Nexus 5X. Although, since this operating system update is still in beta, it will more than surely have its fair share of bugs. Therefore, Android fans who are not willing to deal with bugs should just sit on the sidelines and wait for Google to release the official OTA (over the air) version of it.

As previously mentioned, the Developer Preview edition of the update is available for download right now. In addition, the update requires 895.0MB of free storage space and we advise users to download it over a stable Wi-Fi network in order to not consume their mobile data.

Developer Preview Feedback

Numerous Nexus 5X owners have already installed this update on their smartphones and their feedback is overall good. The first thing that Nexus 5X owners noticed after updating their operating system is that the smartphone’s battery life was enhanced, and the user interface started moving faster.

However, the update still causes some issues. The most annoying of them being random reboots. After installing Android 8.1 Oreo, Nexus 5X owners started reporting that their smartphone randomly reboots itself which can get quite annoying.
