Nexus 5X, 6P, 9 and Pixel C with Android 7.1 Developer Preview 2 Live
The first Android 7.1 Nougat developer preview update was launched back in October and now Google is rolling out the second developer preview update, right before the complete Android 7.1.1 build. The second developer preview update makes the firmware compatible with Google’s older devices such as Pixel C, Nexus 5X/6P and Nexus 9.
Nougat Developer Preview Update
The final update is focused mainly on helping app developers make their apps ready for the official release of Android 7.1.1. Some user interface and system behavior tweaks have also been included in the update in order to better optimize the operating system. This second update to the developer preview of Nougat is the final test the operating system has to go through before being rolled out to other platforms. Another cool feature included in the update is that it gives app developers the tools to change the appearance of their app shortcuts to a rounder design, the same way apps look on the iOS.
Installing Developer Preview 2
If you own a compatible device you can go ahead and register in Google’s official Android Developer Program and once registered in the program, Google will automatically sent the OTA (over the air) updates. There’s also another way to get the update, but that requires the user to flash his device’s ROM and the process is quite risky because if the user fails to flash the ROM correctly all the data will be wiped.
Release Date For Android 7.1.1
The full update will be rolled out beginning December and it won’t be delivered to all Android compatible devices, it will be rolled out in series. What this means is that only a selected few will receive the update while other will have to wait a bit longer. The first devices to receive the full Android 7.1.1 build will be Google’s older devices and their flagship Pixel smartphones.
