Prerequisites

The USB drivers for Nexus 7 (2013) LTE need to be downloaded and installed on your PC before the process starts, after downloading and installing the files go ahead and enable the USB debugging option by accessing Menu-Settings-Applications on your tablet. In the Applications panel you will find Developer Options and from there you can make sure that USB Debugging is enabled. The intended Nexus device must also be rooted, TWRP recovery should be installed as well, and make sure that your tablet has more than 70% of battery charge.

Updating Nexus 7 2013 to Android 7.1 Nougat

First of all download the CM 14.1 Nightly Nougat ROM then the GApps package and connect the Nexus device to your PC using the USB slot. After you have connected both devices go ahead and copy the downloaded files on to the microSD card of the tablet then disconnect it and power it off. Now you have to boot the tablet into Bootloader mode and to do this you will have to press and hold at the same time the Volume Up, Volume Down and power buttons, also use the Volume buttons to select “wipe data/factory reset”. Don’t forget to wipe dalvik cache as well. In the second phase of the updating process you will have to select install and choose the CM 14.1 Android 7.1 Nougat zip from the microSD card and confirm the installation. When the ROM installation is done you will have to repeat all the steps mentioned above to install the GApps package.

When the GApps package has finished installing all that’s left to do is to reboot the tablet and enjoy the full Android Nougat experience.
