Idea launches Emergency Internet Usage in Rajasthan

Telecom giant Idea Cellular, launched “Emergency Internet Usage Service” earlier this week. Subscribers can enjoy uninterrupted internet access even with zero balance. At the moment this service is available exclusively for subscribers in Rajasthan.

While most would argue that such a service will be more relevant in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune etc., Idea explains that there is growing demand in rural areas for mobile internet services thanks to popularity of Social Networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and cross-platform IM services like WhatsApp. However, most of these users tend to have a prepaid connection as opposed to a postpaid one. The Emergency Internet Service enables Idea 2G prepaid customers in Rajasthan with balance less than Rs 2 to use up to 50MB of free internet for 2 days, by dialling 53566 or *666# (both toll free) anytime, anywhere from their mobile phones. For this, however, Rs. 5 will be deducted from the subsequent recharge amount.

With so many options and activities available, be it online payment/recharge, shopping or even communication, mobile internet is getting more popular by the day. With such a service at your disposal, during crunch period, you can easily recharge using the 50 MB for an economical Rs. 5 which will be valid for 2 days! I hope, once it gets accepted in Rajasthan, Idea will consider moving it to more urban landscapes.
