New Xolo Opus 3 Smartphone is Aggressively Priced, Takes on Microsoft Lumia 535 in India

The Indian mobile market seems to be more crowded than ever, with dozens of new mobile devices every week. One of the newest smartphones to be announced is the Xolo Opus 3, which has been described by the company as a ‘selfie’ smartphone.

Xolo is an Indian smart devices brand that has been launched in early 2012. Currently, it is owned by Lava International, an Indian mobile handset company with its headquarters in Noida, New Delhi and regional offices across India. Domestic-made devices have become increasingly popular over the last few years in India.

The smartphone features a 5-inch HD display, which is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and it runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). There’s a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a Sony Exmor R sensor, along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 88-degree wide-angle lens, hence the moniker ‘selfie’.

The Xolo Opus 3 features 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, that can be expanded up to 32GB with an external card. A 2500mAh battery is powering the smartphone, which should be enough to deliver a decent life span.

The smartphone has Dual SIM abilities and also comes with Dual Standby. The connectivity options are quite basic – 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The Xolo Opus 3 is available just in the black color and is priced at Rs. 8499 (about 136 dollars).

Judging by its specs and the price that it comes with, the Xolo Opus 3 seems to be a direct rival for the recently announced Microsoft Lumia 535. Both smartphones come with the same display size and the same front-facing camera capacity. But they sport different operating systems and are being sold by two totally different brands.

Therefore, it will be the consumers who will decide what they will opt for – a domestic brand running on Android or a Windows Phone based smartphone coming from such a huge company like Microsoft.
