After the release of BlackBerry Passport in some markets, fans are finally able to try and experiment with some of the new features added to the new version of BlackBerry operating system, called 10.3.1.

The Passport is the only phone that runs an official version of BlackBerry’s new 10.3.1 OS, but the company plans to release it to all its other compatible phones later this year, but in a form of an update.

The release of the OS 10.3.1 won’t be surprising at all, because various builds were already leaked a couple of weeks ago, and many users are already using it.

But we cannot say that this will be the final version, until the official release.  Here is a short list of new features and improvements that we should expect in the official release:

Notifications Profiles (similar to BeBuzz and Hub++ apps);

Internal & External Out of Office replies;

Ability to specify which contacts folders within Exchange to sync;

More robust Calendar reminder dialogs;

Task Recurrence;

Workspace Camera;

Ability to mark a Picture or Video as “hidden”;

Map View of Pictures (requires Geo-tagging of photos);

Customizable Hotkeys from Home Screen (requires physical keypad);

Battery Saving Mode;

Ability to grant/deny permission for applications to continue running while minimized;

And more!

You should keep in mind that this is just a short list of some of the highlighted features of BlackBerry 10.3.1, and we should expect to get much bigger list once the final version is released, and this should happen in the coming weeks.

Although we don’t have any exact release date, and Blackberry has yet to announce when the OS 10.3.1 will be rolled out to all compatible device, some sources online claim that the release will happen close to November.

Until then, it is known that the Canadian company will release another smartphone that will be powered by the latest operating system, as well. Everyone believes that the new BlackBerry smartphone will be named BlackBerry Classic.

There’s also a possibility for Blackberry to release its new OS along with the new smartphone, but this is just a speculation and nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

BlackBerry 10.3.1 will probably be one of the most important OS updates released by BlackBerry, because of the huge amount of improvements and new features that come with it.

    2. 10.3.1 hasn’t leaked as yet…we’ve only got the developer os that landed a couple of days ago
    3. No, the Passport isn’t running 10.3.1 as yet… 10.3.1 will only be released when the Classic is launched
