Nexus 6 Receives Android 8.0 Oreo Custom ROM
Google and Motorola teamed up back in 2014 and created one of the most prolific Android smartphones ever made, Nexus 6. This smartphone features high-end hardware parts which are provided by Motorola and constant software updates as a courtesy of Google. This is what made Nexus 6 shine. Sadly, smartphones have an expiration date in terms of software updates and Nexus 6 will not receive Android 8.0 Oreo.
Android 8.0 Oreo
A couple of weeks ago, Google officially unveiled Android 8.0 Oreo. This new operating system will bring Android powered devices to the next level with features such as the picture in picture mode and all of its performance enhancement tweaks. Sadly, Nexus 6 has been out for three years now and Google doesn’t consider it eligible to receive Android 8.0 Oreo.
Custom AOSP ROM
Fortunately, Nexus 6 owners can still get their hands on Google’s latest update through an unofficial method. The developers from the “S.I.X” team have created a custom Nexus 6 compatible ROM that’s based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Nexus 6 owners can manually flash the ROM themselves with the use of programs such as Magisk and SuperSU.
Even though this ROM is not stable and it’s considered as being experimental software, it still comes with all of Android 8.0 Oreo’s features. For example, the ROM includes features such as AOSP messaging, Six Boot navigation, Oreo system colors, AOSP camera, new bar icons and even Oreo Pixel stock sounds.
Nonetheless, the custom ROM can be downloaded from here. Although, we still need to stress the fact that this is still experimental software and it might present its fair share of bugs. Therefore, we are not forcing anyone to flash the ROM and it’s their own decision if they do it.
