Huawei Reveals Mate 10’s Artificial Intelligence Mobile Processor
Huawei is one of the most ambitious companies in the smartphone industry and it even publicly stated that its goal is to surpass both Apple and Samsung in order to become the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world. From the looks of it, Huawei is on the right path since it recently unveiled an artificial intelligence smartphone processor. The CPU’s sole purpose is to grab Apple’s fan base attention and lure it to Huawei’s side.
Kirin 970 AI
The processor is being dubbed as Kirin 970 AI and it will be equipped on Huawei’s upcoming Mate 10. Worth mentioning is that Mate 10 is being marketed as “Huawei’s most powerful handset yet”, and that it will be launched in October. Nonetheless, the AI processor was unveiled yesterday (September 2th) during the IFA consumer electronics event in Berlin. In addition, Huawei claims that its new processor is “20 times faster” than any standard CPU.
In order to make it clear just how powerful Kirin 970 is, Richard Yu who Huawei’s CEO stated the following: “The Kirin 970 is faster, better and more secure than anything else available on the market. This is the latest technology and it is the first chip to have a neural processing unit inside, which is 20 times faster than a central processing unit”. In addition, Richard Yu followed up with this statement: “It is a major breakthrough for Huawei. We will enable the first use of AI technology in mobile apps, and provide consumers with a never-before-seen AI experience right in the palm of their hands”.
It seems like Huawei is not that far away from surpassing Samsung and Apple after all, at least in terms of hardware specs. All that’s left now is to see just how well Kirin 970 performs when it will be installed on Huawei’s upcoming Mate 10 flagship smartphone.
