While many animation studios are very closed about the release of their films, DreamWorks Animation is known for a free approach and releasing as many as three feature films in the span of a year. The latest installment of “Shrek” was released way back in 2010, and the company wants to keep the spirit of the franchise alive with a spin-off, “Puss in Boots”. The movie was very successful, both critically and financially.

Classy, titular kitty, voiced by Antonio Banderas grossed $554.9 million worldwide. It was known that DreamWorks is developing the sequel of the spin-off, but further information about the movie were unknown, until now.

While giving interview about his work on “The Expendables 3”, Antonio Banderas also revealed that he actually is working on “Puss In Boots 2”. When asked if he’d return to the character of “Puss in Boots” sometime, actor revealed that work on the movie is already underway:

“We started the new one four days ago. It did incredibly well with audiences and critics, all around the world, and the character is going to keep going. With Jeffrey [Katzenberg], whatever he wants. He’s one of my favorite producers. This character was born almost 12 years ago. We have had a lot of fun with him, and it seems that audiences do, too. So, we’re doing another one.”

This is a little bit surprising, because we haven’t heard much about “Puss in Boots 2” in quite some time. Besides Banderas, executive producer Guillermo del Toro was speaking about the movie, revealing that a few pages of screenplay have already been written. Del Toro also said that Puss might change his location in the new movie.

According to Banderas and del Toro, development of the second installment of “Puss in Boots” is going very well, so we should expect this movie to appear in theaters in couple of years.
