iPad HD – the name of the upcoming Apple tablet?

The third-generation Apple tablet may not be codenamed ”iPad 3”, but ”iPad HD”. The name reportedly emphasizes the amazing qualities of the tablet’s display.

The iPad 2 integrates a modest resolution of 1024 x 768p, while the iPad HD could feature a display with a 2048 x 1536p resolution. This means that the iPad 2 follow up should be able to render clearer images than its predecessor.

This would not be the first time when Apple doubles the resolution of its products’ displays since the iPhone 4 features a 960x640p resolution display, compared to the 480x320p resolution offered by its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS.

Apple could launch the iPad HD tablet alongside the iPhone 5. The smartphone will reportedly be lighter and thinner than the iPhone 4, and host a dual-core processor under its hood and an 8MP camera, rumors suggest.

On the other hand, other rumors claim that the iPad HD tablet will be nothing but an improved version of the iPad 2 and not a completely new product. These rumors are based on the fact that only a new generation tablet would be allowed to bear the ”iPad 3” name.
