Cortana for Windows Phone Gets Released in UK In Two Weeks, Will Recognize British Accent
Microsoft developers have some good news for all Windows Phone 8.1 users, they’ve prepared the new virtual assistant, Cortana, as well as the new lock screen app to be available to users in a few weeks.
Cortana is one of the most anticipated features of the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system; this feature was available only in beta and only within the United States, but from now on, this Siri-like Windows Phone feature will be available in the UK, in about two weeks.
Marcus Ash, Cortana’s Program Manager, has recently tweeted about the release of this feature in the UK: “@petestensones @WindowsPhoneUK Barring an unforeseen issue, down to less than 2 weeks for the developer preview.”
But he didn’t reveal the exact release date of Cortana. He also stated that Cortana will recognize British accent.
Ash also said that the Microsoft team learned a lot about ‘scaling’ while working on Cortana.
“@petestensones @WindowsPhoneUK Thanks for your patience. Tough project but we have learned a lot about scaling. Now we need to finish.” Cortana will also be available in China in couple of weeks.
Besides Cortana, there is another interesting app which might be released in about a week. Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President and Manager for Windows Phone Program Management at Microsoft, has tweeted about the new lock screen app for Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones.
This feature will allow users to utilise Lock Screen themes. “Lockscreen app- sorry for being quiet. The beta (English, 1gb+) is ALMOST here, perhaps a week. We hit a few snags & added a feature,” said Belfiore in his twitter post.
It is believed that Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones with 1GB of RAM or more will be able to run the this lockscreen app. The beta version of the app will only support English language, but we expect support for more languages in the future.
There will be more details about this new lockscreen app once it becomes available for download. This app will add support for first-party and third-party themes, so you will be able to customize your phone with variety of themes.
For now, we only know that this new lockscreen manager will add themes to your lock screen, but there might be other hidden features as well.
