BBM for Windows Phone is FINALLY Here!
BlackBerry Messenger, which is already available on iOS and Android, has now been released in an open beta state for Windows Phone users. Here’s how you can join and take the service out for a test run.
Blackberry’s messaging service, BlackBerry Messenger or BBM for Windows Phone was teased for WP users back in February, and now users can finally get their hands on a beta version, the company announced a few days ago.
The app is currently in a filled-up closed beta state, but you can still join the waiting list to get notified when a spot opens up for you. Blackberry says it will open the app to everyone in “the coming weeks.”
Similar to other versions of the app, users can chat with one or many BBM contacts at a time, and share photos, contacts, location etc. with them. The app is still notably missing stickers, which the company says will be “landing in the coming months.”
The app will have three main sections: Contacts, Chats and Feeds. The Contacts section will let users find friends, create groups and start multi-user chats, which we all like to do. The Chats section will list all current and previous chats, and the Feeds section will include recent activity such as status changes, new profile pictures etc.
BlackBerry is opening up the beta version of BBM for Windows Phone so that they can get feedback from users regarding the app and its functionalities. If you’re waiting for the full release, you’re going to have to wait a little longer.
BBM once used to be an exclusive feature for BlackBerry phones, but was released on iOS and Android as BlackBerry’s own smartphone market fell down late last year. The company did say that the app hit over 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours with the iOS and Android versions, but is it too late for BBM to join the market?
BBM currently faces the likes of WhatsApp, Viber and iMessage, Apple’s own messaging service.
