Minecraft To Be Released for PS Vita, Free For PS3 Minecraft Players

Minecraft is a famous sandbox game published by developer Mojang, which has already sold over 54 million copies worldwide. We’ve now got a release date for the title’s PS Vita version, alongside the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

Minecraft, the famous sandbox game which most kids love, will be releasing for the PS Vita in August, publisher Mojang announced.

Unlike different mobile and tablets versions of the game, Minecraft for the PlayStation Vita won’t be a slimmed down version of the main game, as the Vita does have enough power to handle the entire game without any major issues.

Minecraft for the PS Vita is more in line with the PS3 version with the game, and will include nearly all PS3 features including online play. If you currently own the title for the PS3, the Vita title will be totally free. If not, you can buy them both bundled together for $19.99.

The title also includes another neat feature – you can save your worlds back and forth on both the PS Vita and the PS3. Hence, you can easily craft your world on the PS3 back at home on your wide-screen TV, and continue on the PS Vita if you need to head out somewhere.

As the publisher describes it:

“Saves are transferable between the PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of Minecraft. You will be able to craft at home on your PlayStation 3, then continue on the bus/toilet with your PlayStation Vita.”

Also, all DLC purchased for Minecraft PS3’s version will work on the PlayStation Vita version. Mojang also announced that amongst the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game, Minecraft for PlayStation Vita will be releasing in the PSN Store in August 2014.

The PS4 version “brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance” than its PS3 and PS Vita counterparts. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to take advantage of the back and forth save feature between the PS4 and PS Vita, as the PS4’s world is bigger and won’t be playable on the PS Vita.

You could, however, use your PS Vita to connect it to your PS4 and play on the Vita using the remote play option. Meanwhile, check out this screenshot of Minecraft on the next-gen consoles, and tell us what you think of it in the comments below:
