Release Date for Winds of Winter: Updates you Need to Know
The Winds of Winter is the forthcoming sixth novel in the epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin and there’s a lot of interest piling up.
The Winds of Winter is awaited by millions of fans of the acclaimed Game of Thrones series and the popular books of George R. R. Martin. One of the reasons why there’s such a lot of interest for the book is because of the upcoming battles. Here’s what the author himself has been saying:
“I’m going to open with the two big battles that I was building up to, the battle in the ice and the battle at Meereen—the battle of Slaver’s Bay. And then take it from there.”
George R. R. Martin himself confirmed the following characters will be present in The Winds of Winter: Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Arianne Martell, Aeron Greyjoy, Theon Greyjoy, Victarion Greyjoy, Tyrion Lannister, Barristan Selmy and others.
Most of the rumors, leaks and hearsay seem to point that the George R. R. Martin’s Winds of Winter release date is set for a 2017 release, as we all know already that the author is known for his slow writing speeds.
According to Five Thirty Eight, if Martin continues to write at an average rate of 350 words per day, which happens to be the same rate as Harry Potter’s JK Rowling, then the next installment will be completed by February 2015. However, it’s expected for Martin’s daily pace drop to 250 words, which means for a release date closer to 2017.
Even Martin’s editor Anne Groell, isn’t aware of the release date but she even tried “multiple times” to encourage Martin to work but she says “he is one stubborn man and very set in his ways”. Martin’s UK publisher Jane Johnson said that Windows of Winter won’t be out this year, which was almost sure, and she added the following
“In all honest only George knows how many books there will be in the series and he’s not saying. Indeed, at this stage of his writing, with the many branching pathways of the characters’ stories still to intersect, he may not know.”
According to the author himself, there are going to be “more deaths, more betrayals and more marriages”. Here are some new bits the author posted
“So it’s new in that it is material that no one but my editors (well, and Parris, and David and Dan, and a few others) have ever seen before, but it’s old in that it was written a long time ago, predating any of the samples that you have seen. The first draft was, at any rate. I’ve rewritten it a dozen times since then”
So, according to the latest information on the matter, it all depends on George R. R. Martin and his writing speeds. If he improves it, then we might see a 2016 release, if not, then mark your calendars for 2017.
