Sony unveils SmartWatch 2 SW2 at Mobile Asia Expo 2013
Along with its new Xperia Z Ultra phablet, Sony has unveiled the SmartWatch2 SW2 at the Mobile Asia Expo 2013 in Shanghai. This is a water-resistant wearable device which works a watch doubles as a notifications unit which supports NFC to easily pair it with compatible Android devices.
This new smartwatch from Sony sports 42x9x41mm dimensions and along with its metal strap it weighs at just 122.5 grams. The device is built using stainless steel and aluminum which gets its IP57 standard certification for water and dust resistance.
The SmartWatch 2 SW2 is a wearable watch which features a 1.6-inch transfelctive LCD display with a resolution of 220×176 pixels. In terms of the connectivity it supports Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC while it is compatible with devices running Android 4.0 ICS or better. It can be charged using a microUSB port and Sony has mentioned that the battery on the device is good enough for up to 4 days of usage after a full charge.
Further this device works as a notification device for missed calls, messages and event reminders. Sony says that a huge number of apps on the Play Store will work on the SmartWatch 2 SW2, some of these include Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Gmail, RSS, Music Player and a remote camera shutter release amongst other applications.
The Sony SmartWatch SW2 will be available globally in the third quarter of this year, and at the moment there is no word on the pricing of the device.
