Nvidia GTX 880 and 870 Release Date Pushed to Q4 2014

Gamers from all over the world are looking forward to get their hands on the much awaited Nvidia GTX 880, but it seems that its release date has been further delayed. The same goes for the Nvidia GTX 870 which will be released in the same time as the star of the show, the GTX 880.

The much waited GTX 880 will be here before Christmas

According to some inside information coming from Sweden publication SweClockers, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 graphics cards based upon the Maxwell architecture are expected to arrive in Q4 2014, which could be fall. But, probably Nvidia will release it in the lucrative holiday season.

The Maxwell architecture graphics cards for desktops have made their debut on the mainstream GTX 750 Ti in February this year and since then, gamers from all over the world are looking forward to the “deadly duo”, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 graphics cards.

The two new graphics cards will be made on TSMC’s 28nm process as the semiconductor foundry won’t be making any 20nm GPUs until next year, according to a corroborated report from Hexus.net. The publication shares some more details:

The new Nvidia GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 graphics cards are expected to be powered by the GM204 GPU, which is the successor to the GK104, however this isn’t certain. In these higher end parts the second generation Maxwell architecture should bring more than simply higher performance features.

At the moment, we don’t know too many details about the features and specifications of these much awaited graphics cards, but hopefully as the release date nears, more leaks and hearsay will provide information on this.

  1. Pushed? Personally I take Q4 2014 is much earlier than the expected first half of 2015 that some people were speculating before this.

      1. i think that is based on assumption back in 2011/2012 that TSMC 20nm node will be ready by the second half of 2013 with nvidia and amd coming up with their new gpu in Q4 2013 or early 2014. well a lot has happen since then and even this new gpu was supposed to be on TSMC 28nm instead of the expected 20nm node. for nvidia part it was quite lucky for them? i mean they still able to work around to get the power consumption down with maxwell despite still using the same node as kepler
