Oculus Rift vs. HTC Vive – What We Learned So Far

Oculus Rift vs. HTC Vive

Finally, we don’t have only one reality available to us, but a virtual one too! Virtual reality is the new trend, especially when it is a high-quality and immersive one. Everybody wants to have such an experience now, or at least anybody who has a very powerful PC and can spend $600 on the Oculus Rift, or $800 on the HTC Vive. Overall, this is a great achievement of the tech world on the level of the society, just like the internet and smartphones were at their time.

It is important to see the reviews regarding both of the VR sets and see which one is best for whom. This is especially useful for those who haven’t spent their money already and want to know as much as possible about everything before making a decision.

The Price

Right from the start, you can see that the HTC Vive’s price of $800 is definitely higher than the $600 you have to spend on the Oculus Rift. However, if you decide for Oculus, you still have to buy some motion controllers which are not already on the market, and also some additional sensors for the room-scale, so the prices come to be pretty much equal.

Sure, these prices refer only to the VR set in itself, not including the PC.

Comfort

Both of them are lighter than their prototypes. However, the Rift is lighter than the Vive, the latter being more bulkier because it has lots of cables in the headset. Also, with Vive you get more strain on you face, since it’s a little bit front-heavy.

Graphics

They are both excellent, with OLED displays at a resolution of 1200 x 1080 pixels. The Vive display appears somewhat sharper, but not too much. Anyway, the graphics quality depends mostly on you own graphics card and PC CPU.

So which one is better?

This is a hard question to answer. They are both great, a cutting edge technology, but each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. You just have to research and test and see which one is best suited for your needs and wishes, since not everything is suitable for everybody. Good luck in finding the best VR set!
