Nexus 6 Keeps on Living Despite Google’s Wishes

Android fans are known for always being loyal to their devices. While this might sound like it’s great for Google, it’s actually a double edged sword. The Android parent has been doing its best in order to get rid of older smartphones such as Nexus 6, but Android fans are not letting it go. Google is basically looking to replace the Nexus brand with the newer Pixel one, but things aren’t going according to plan.

Google has launched many Nexus smartphones along the years, but Nexus 6 is the most prolific one of them. The reason behind this is that Nexus 6 offers high-end performances alongside a sleek looking 5.96 inch display for the really cheap price of $250.  Even though Google has stopped supporting Nexus 6 with software updates, Nexus 6 owners have found a way around this.

Custom ROMs

The reason why Nexus 6 keeps surviving despite Google’s wishes is because custom ROM developers such as Lineage OS are never going to stop from reproducing Google’s latest operating system updates and making them public. In fact, reports are showing that custom ROM developers are already working on making Android 7.1.2 Nougat compatible with Nexus 6.

“Premium” Budget Smartphone

As previously mentioned, Nexus 6 can be acquired for just $250 on Amazon. This puts the device in the budget smartphone category but this doesn’t mean that it’s not able to offer stable hardware performances. Motorola is the one who was in charge of Nexus 6’s hardware parts and it made sure that Nexus 6 is more than capable of being as a daily driver for the years to come. The way in which Motorola managed to achieve that is by equipping the smartphone with high-end internals. Without any further ado, let’s see what Nexus 6 has to offer.

Internals

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU. The processor is very impressive because it has been clocked at 2.7GHz Krait 450 and also because it is coupled with an Adreno 420 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM. Last but not least, Nexus 6 is fueled by a huge non-removable Li-Po 3,220 mAh battery.
