Google Nexus 5 vs Motorola Moto X – Two of the Best Affordable Smartphones

The year 2013 has been a fruitful one for smartphone lovers. The market was flooded with premium smartphones that are still selling well to this day. Not everyone is able to afford one of Samsung’s latest Galaxy S series smartphone and that’s why older smartphones are still popular. Even though many companies refreshed their smartphone offerings all throughout 2013, two of them stand out the most. We are talking about Nexus 5 and Moto X.

Google and LG are the two companies behind Nexus 5 and obviously Motorola is the one that’s directly managing Moto X. Today we’re going to pin the two against each other and see what they have to offer. We should also add that Google used to collaborate with Motorola and create Nexus smartphones, therefore it’s going to be quite interesting to see how well Motorola’s smartphone fares against the LG made Nexus 5.

Display

Nexus 5 ships with a 4.95 inch True HD IPS+ display that offers a full HD pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920. LG has also made sure to coat the device’s display in Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which increases its shock resistance. On the other hand, Moto X has been fitted with a 4.7 INCH AMOLED panel that features a pixel resolution of 720 x 1280. Moto X’s display has also been coated in Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Specs

LG and Google’s smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU. The processor clocks at 2.3GHz Krait 400 and it is paired with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM. Moto X is also fueled by one of Qualcomm’s CPUs but a different model. Moto X uses Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU that clocks at 1.7GHz Krait 300 and that’s been coupled with an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Verdict

Even though Moto X is putting up a good fight, we have to give it to Nexus 5. The latter dominates in both the hardware and display departments with its more impressive performances. Even better, Nexus 5 has been kept up to date with all of Google’s software updates along the years and this gives it an advantage over Moto X.
