Windows Phone 8.1 can be Upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile
Michael Fortin has posted a new article on the official Windows blog website, confirming that starting from today, Microsoft will roll out the Windows 10 Mobile OS to selected Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.
Fortin said that since Microsoft is focused on delivering a high quality experience to its customers and, now, the owners of the devices that we’ll mention below will be able to finally install the latest Windows mobile operating system on their phones. Here are the devices that will run on the new Windows 10 Mobile: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u and BLU Win HD LTE x150q.
Unfortunately, since the Windows 10 Mobile comes with many new features, some old devices will not be allowed to it, because this software will have a huge impact on their performance. Fortin said that Microsoft’s goal is to deliver the Windows 10 upgrade only to the devices that will be able to run it without any performance issues.
How To Upgrade Your Device From Windows 8.1 To Windows 10 Mobile
In order to upgrade your phone that runs on Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile, you will firstly have to download the Upgrade Advisor application. Once you download this application, it will tell you if your device is able to run the new Windows 10 Mobile OS and if it is, you will be allowed to download and install it on your handset.
Keep in mind that if your device is eligible for the upgrade, you will most likely need to free up some space in order to install the Windows 10 Mobile on it. This is the reason why the application will recommend you to move files, such as photos and videos, to a SD card or upload them to OneDrive. We suggest you to accept the recommendations, or change which files you want to move. In addition, you can also delete some files, if you don’t need them anymore.
HINT: If you will upload your files to OneDrive, you will need to use the Upgrade Advisor application in order to restore them back to your device once the Windows 10 Mobile is installed.
