After months of waiting, some of the Lumia device owners have finally received the new Windows 10 Mobile software that Microsoft has released last fall, alongside the Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones. The unified Windows 10 is allowing desktop applications to run on smartphones and vice versa, and it also supports Xbox app, which allows the users to stay connected to the Xbox Live community.

There are many feature features introduced in Windows 10 and Edge is the web browser that successfully replaced the obsolete Internet Explorer, especially because it works together with Cortana – the personal assistant that was launched for Windows 8.1. In this article, we’ll tell you if your device is eligible to get the update and we’ll teach you how to install it.

The phones that were approved by Microsoft to be updated to Windows 10 Mobile are: Lumia 1520; 930; 640; 640XL; 730; 735; 830; 532; 535; 540; 635 (1GB); 636 (1GB); 638 (1GB); 430; 435; BLU Win HD w510u; BLU Win HD LTE x150q and MCJ Madosma Q501.

If you don’t know what the model number of the phone is, there’s an application that will identify it. It’s called Upgrade Advisor and you can download it from the internet. This application will detect if there’s not enough space in order to install the update and will warn you to delete unnecessary files.

Some of the Lumia devices will never be upgraded because their old hardware is not powerful enough to handle this software. But if your device supports the Windows 10 Mobile update, you will be alerted as soon as the software will be available for download, but if you’re impatient and don’t want to wait for the notification, then you can manually check for updates.

This can be done by sliding from the top of the screen to the bottom and clicking on All settings, then scrolling down to the phone update and waiting until the available update is found. After finding it, tap on it to start the installation process.

We advise you to connect to a wireless network and to fully charge you phone, so it won’t shut down during the installation.
