The rumor mills are churning, and this time it’s regarding Motorola. Motorola has nabbed a few engineers from Apple and Adobe, and the word on the street is that these moves are part of a grander scheme that Motorola is implementing which sees it developing it’s own mobile operating system. Apparently, the company doesn’t want it’s mobile devices to rely too much on the success of Android, and hence is pushing for the development of a brand new OS.

However, the story may have started way back in 2008, when Motorola acquired 280 North, a programming company. Initially, everyone thought the reason for the acquisition was that Motorola wanted their open-source Cappuccino programming language to create apps. But now the feeling is that they may leverage 280 North to create their own mobile OS that stands a fighting chance with the likes of iOS and Android.
Motorola’s foray into OS development may be a very rocky one, considering the intense competition that is currently fueling the mobile devices market. Is this a good move the company that has traditionally focused on hardware? What do our readers think?
