A FIR (First Information Report) has been filled against Facebook and it is a job of a certain social activist from Meerut, UP named Nutan Thakur. This FIR against the social network is for “instigating communal passions” and “denigrating Indian gods.”

Well, this may not come as a surprise to many but there quite a lot of anti-Islam and anti-Hindu communities out on the social network and apparently they are the main reason behind this FIR. Members of these groups have been abusing other religions and Thakur fears that this may lead to riots in the country. According to her these comments are published using fake IDs and the hatred between Hindus and Muslims is increasing on the network.

The fake profile has uploaded a poorly photoshoped poster of the movie 3 Idiots where the characters from the movie have been replaced by three Indian gods. The person behind this want to convey the message that if anti-Islamic communities and profiles aren’t deleted more of such profiles would be created on Facebook. It is certain that both the communities are at fault here but Facebook should have a certain method to moderate such activities as it will simply create more hatred.

However, Facebook is an open public forum and I do not agree with the idea of filing a complaining against the social network. Such communities will always exist on any public forum and if you are offended by such activities regardless your religion you have all the rights to publish your opinion online. Users who find it offensive can also report such profiles directly to Facebook.
