Nokia X Android smartphone has been launched in India for Rs 8,599

First unveiled earlier at MWC 2014, Nokia has now officially launched its very first Android based entry-level smartphone in the Indian market. The device known as Nokia X has been officially priced at Rs 8,599 and is now up for grabs through various retailers.

As mentioned above this is the first device from Nokia which comes with the Android OS, however it is not a full-fledged Android version but rather the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) version and hence it will come without most of the Google APIs.

As it runs AOSP the Nokia X will now include the Google Play Store or any other Google services for that matter. Nokia will instead have its own Android store as well as other third party-application stores.

Nokia has mentioned that most of the Android apps work on the Nokia X without any need for developers to make any changes. Many important apps which use Google services have already been have been already modified to work with Nokia or Microsoft services.

Developers can easily port their own applications to Nokia’s Android store, all the developers need to do change the Google APIs to the Nokia’s APIs and the apps will be up and running on the Nokia X series devices.

This smartphone however is not like any other Android smartphone in the market. It looks like a huge upgrade to the Nokia Asha series of smartphones and it also includes an upgraded and improved version of the Fastlane interface.

In terms of the specifications, the Nokia X sports a 4-inch WVGA resolution LCD display with a 233ppi pixel density, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz and has 512MB of RAM. The device further includes 4GB of built-in storage capacity which can be further expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card and the company also offers 1GB of free OneDrive storage from Microsoft.

On the rear, the device has a 3 megapixel camera with fixed focus, f/2.8 aperture and 4x digital zoom. It has no front facing camera. The phone is equipped with a 1,500mAh battery and the company claims it lasts for 10.5 hours of talktime and 17 days of standby time. It also includes FM Radio, dual-SIM capability, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features in terms of connectivity.
