720p HD Skype videocalling demo by Pathpartner using Android and OMAP 4

At the Texas Instruments’ MWC booth, it may seem that Pathpartner was ready to boast about something different this time and yes, we can believe after they gave a demo of an Android application made by Pathpartner that enables 720p video calling over Skype – The very famous VOIP application.

This could be shown only using OMAP 4 development boxes. OMAP 4 is the new generation technology that enables 1080p experience on smartphones brought out by Texas Instruments who showed off their OMAP 3 experience last year. Alexy Mathew Joseph, senior technical lead of Pathpartner who showcased the demo confirmed that the video calling feature would operate on 3G and 4G networks and added that hasn’t tested it on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor yet. But affirms that it might work on that as well. We might have to wait till the end of this year to see the 720p Skype video calling feature.

In the meanwhile, the company is working with Skype to get it certified and also talking to a number of handset makers to include the application embedded on purchase.
