The Sony PSP2 Officially Released, Dubbed As The Next Generation Portable

The Sony PSP2 is now official. The guys at Sony announced it at their Japan Press Conference and it is called the NGP,i.e., Next Generation Portable. It is a powerful handheld device, with a 5-inch OLED touchscreen display. It is powered by an amazing quad-core ARM processor and it surely seems like the next generation of handheld gaming.

The touchscreen can be used for controls but it also has the traditional playStation keys with two analog sticks, a directional pad and a rear mounted touchscreen as we have heard from previous rumors. In terms of connectivity it is 3G capable, GPS enabled and also features WiFi connectivity. It has the motion technology found in the recently released PlayStation Move and front facing and rear cameras.

For the NGP, the games won’t come in a UMD but in a new kind of flash memory stick which is not really the same as the Memory Stick. It will also have digital games. It will have fully functional PlayStation Network support to stay connected with others playing from around the world. However, the XMB UI is replaced by a new UI called LiveArea.

Sony says this new handheld is as powerful as the PlayStation 3 and has some interesting titles lined-up. They showcased Metal Gear Solid 4 running at 20fps on this brilliant portable gaming device. The Next Generation Portable is coming in the holiday season and expect it to be priced around $400 upon launch.
