Nexus and Pixel – Android January Security Patch Available
We have great news for Nexus and Pixel owners, Google recently posted the full January security bulletin. The post includes the complete list of factory images and OTA updates for Nexus and Pixel devices. Google will roll out the OTA (over the air) update during the upcoming weeks, but Android power users can always opt to flash the factory images themselves using Android Debug Bridge.
Installing the latest security patch is very important since it will fix major security breaches. In fact, Google reported that January’s security bulletin fixes 95 major issues. The update came just in time because recent reports have been showing that one flaw in Android’s security allowed hackers to remote execute Android powered device through media features such as MMS, messages, emails and so on. Google also included some tweaks to third party hardware parts manufactured by Qualcomm and NVIDIA. Pixel users are the luckiest ones because alongside the security fixes, January’s patch also comes with a fix for the infamous Pixel audio distortion malfunction.
Android users should keep in mind that fact that even though Google will push the update, the only devices that already run on Android Nougat will be eligible to receive the update. Right now we will go over the devices which are eligible to receive January’s security bulletin. The following Google devices can install the updates right now: Pixel and Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus Player.
It should be clear by now Google’s position in regards to security threats. The tech giant keeps its developers working hard because the company launches a new security patch every month. In fact, the last security patch was included in the final build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat which was only a couple of weeks ago.
