Nexus 6 Finally Uploads Android 7.1.1 Nougat Files

Ever since Google launched its new Pixel line, the US based tech giant has been trying to slowly but surely get rid of the Nexus brand in order to make room for the new gadgets but to also make them more appealing towards customers. The way Google is doing this is by stopping software support for older Nexus devices and this was clearly seen when Nexus 6 didn’t receive the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat update while Google’s other devices such as Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X received it.

We have great news for Nexus 6 owners, Google finally uploaded the official Android 7.1.1 Nougat system images and OTA files. As previously mentioned, while the Pixel line and the latest Nexus devices have been enjoying the complete Nougat experience, Nexus 6 users had to wait for one additional month until they were put up to par. Google will roll out the OTA (over the air) update during the upcoming weeks, but in case Android power users don’t want to wait any longer they can simply download the system images and flash them themselves.

What’s really upsetting Nexus 6 owners is the fact that Motorola, the co-creator of the device equipped it with high performing hardware parts which definitely make it eligible for the latest updates. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor which is coupled with 3GB of RAM, it’s pretty clear that Nexus 6 is able to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat without any problems. It’s safe to say that Google simply wants to get Nexus users to switch over to the new Pixel devices and the way to do that is to offer the complete Nougat experience only on Pixel devices.
