Diablo 20th anniversary brings Blizzard communities together
Blizzard is a company with many badges of honor in the gaming community. A lot of iconic games have been released by the game creator and while some might know it for World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Starcraft or even the more recent Hearthstone or Overwatch, there is a large following that recognize Blizzard for their Diablo franchise. Just like every other effort, Diablo brings its own flavor to the table and to prove just how big of an impact this game had on gaming in general, we are here 20 years after the release of the first installment, celebrating its anniversary in various ways.
While there will be some sort of celebration and goodie bag waiting for players on other Blizzard games, Blizzard is also planning on celebrating this important anniversary with the Diablo 3 player base. For folks playing Diablo 3 the developer has prepared a special treat. They will be able to travel 20 years back in time and go through the Cathedral, a dungeon from the original Diablo game. The patch that will make this happen is called The Darkening of Tristram, and will be available starting January the 3rd.
If you have Diablo 3 but do not own the Reaper of Souls expansion, you will unfortunately not be able to access this anniversary treat. Those who do own Reaper of Souls however will be able to partake in the oldschool vibe and grainy aspect the 16 level dungeon presents for players. Depending on how old you were when the first Diablo game came out, this experience will either be an opportunity to reminisce and smile for a couple minutes, or just pretty weird (looking at you, young ones).
All in all this is a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Diablo and also to keep players pumped before the release of the next two zones in the Diablo 3 Adventure Mode.
