“App” Selected As Word Of The Year
Building forward from one of our previous posts where we reported about Apple’s app store crossing the 10 billion mark, apps have now made a linguistic impact too. The American Dialect Society recently selected “app” as the word of the year for 2010.
App, which means “an application program for a phone or computer or other electronic device.”, was chosen by a panel of 150 linguists and beat out 32 other hopefuls. This just goes to show how widely apps have made their presence felt in recent times, with the revolution of mobile devices and their usage in almost every domain of life. And we here at Gigjets certainly hope that apps will continue to penetrate our daily life and help us out increasingly.
