Annual Nintendo 3DS Online Maintenance Causes a 2 hour server shutdown
Nintendo’s Online service is going to shut down briefly do to its annually maintenance. The process is scheduled to take place on the 9th of this month and will pause any functionality of Nintendo 3DS Online. Reassurances come from Nintendo and apparently the whole thing will only last for two hours, which isn’t that bad. In addition, maintenance will only do what it implies and no changes will take effect during the two hour shutdown.
For the United States, the server maintenance will take place during the hours of 5 PM and 7 PM PST. If you live in the UK however, remember that you won’t be able to access 3DS Online between 1 AM and 3 AM, on the 10th of January.
While for the rest of the gaming world maintenance isn’t something out of the ordinary, 3DS Online players aren’t quite used to it since it is an annual thing for them. Usually, online game servers receive maintenance once every two weeks or so, or even once every month so they have plenty encounters with such obstacles throughout an entire year. At the end of the day, we’re only talking about two hours so it isn’t that bad. If the maintenance routine wouldn’t happen at all, it would be a matter of time before something went wrong with the servers and then play time would be hindered for even more, until Nintendo managed to fix the problem ( after they’d found it, that is).
Another inconvenience brought by maintenance is the fact that it will erase all scheduled events for the day of the said maintenance . If there any tournaments or events planned for the 9th or 10th of January (based on where you live), then they will be deleted and a re-do will be needed.
