iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 Pre-orders Start in India this Weekend: Check the Prices
The overall tablet market is said to slowly decline, but this doesn’t mean the iPad is not the king of tablets anymore. Apple’s newest tablets, the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 are going to be available to Indian customers this weekend.
An authorized Apple channel partner said that the newest iPads will go on sale on November 29, which is this Saturday. Usually, Apple opts for a Friday release, but most likely, the Saturday launch will go live right after midnight.
But as it stands right now, the official information doesn’t come from Apple itself, which means the products won’t be available for pre-orders directly from the online Apple store, but rather at other retailers, such as Flipkart, Infibeam and others.
The entry-level 16 GB Wi-Fi only iPad mini 3 will retail for Rs 28,900, which translates into $467. The 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular version will cost Rs 38,900, the 64GB Wi-Fi – Rs 35,900, 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular – Rs 35,900, 128GB Wi-Fi – Rs 42,900 and 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular – Rs 52,90.
The entry-level 16 GB Wi-Fi only iPad Air 2 will sell for Rs 35,900. The 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular version will cost Rs 45,900, the 64GB Wi-Fi – Rs 42,900, 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular – Rs 52,900, 128GB Wi-Fi – Rs 49,900 and 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular – Rs 49,900.
Looking at these prices and comparing them to last year’s launch, we see that the release of iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 sees their prices slightly go down, which is great news for Indian customers looking to get a taste of the latest and greatest from Apple.
From these two, the iPad Air 2 is the obvious and most significant upgrade. The iPad Air 2 is just 6.1mm thick, which speaks of an 18% reduction on the already thin Air, making it the thinnest tablet in the world. It comes with the TouchID Home button and in the new gold color option. The tablet also makes the jump from the 64-bit A7X chipset in the original Air to an A8X, a higher clocked version of the new A8 chip.
The iPad Mini 3, on the other hand, welcomes a more ‘cosmetic’ upgrade, getting the fingerprint reader and the gold color option. So yeah, it’s pretty much a disappointment. The price difference between the entry level iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 is around 7000 INR, which is around $113. But if you ask me, I think it’s worth it.
