HTC Vive, PlayStation VR or Oculus Rift Game Prices and Hardware
The price of a virtual reality headset is not limited only to the VR headset itself. A VR headset can be really fun, and a great experience but the headset must be kept safe, as well as yourself. Also these devices do not work alone, they rely on more powerful hardware.
There are three top VR headsets on the market right now the PS VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. All of these headsets, require connectivity to a powerful PC. Only the PlayStation VR does not need a PC connection, but it does need a PlayStation 4 one.
The price of a VR ready PC sits around $1000, which in my opinion is pretty expensive. So if you don’t already own a VR ready PC, do not buy a VR headset until you do. To be able to use the PS VR, you will need to own a PS4, which costs $300. The spending does not stop there, you will also need to buy a camera unit and a set of controllers, that do not come bundled with the VR headset. The camera unit and the controllers can be bought for the price of $50.
VR headsets are known for giving immersive gaming experiences, and that can be a problem since the player can’t see or hear his surroundings. Not all headset require its user to move that much. HTC Vive is the only one that requires around 6.5 feet of space so it can use its infrared sensors to map the room. While Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR can be played from your own chair. But they do need clear space between the sensor and the headset.
The most expensive VR headset is the HTC Vive, being priced at $800, and then followed by Oculus Rift $600 and the least expensive one PS VR $400.
