BlackBerry Pays iPhone Owners Good Cash to Get a Passport
It seems that BlackBerry is desperate to get back among the buying preferences of consumers. The Canadian company is now offering current iPhone owners up to $550 to trade-in their devices for the purchase of a Blackberry Passport.
Of course, the actual trade-in value depends on the iPhone model and its condition. It seems that the iPhone 4S is worth up to $90 and the iPhone 6 worth up to $400. But BlackBerry brings in an additional $150 extra for each iPhone to make the deal sound better. However, the iPhone 6 Plus is not eligible, and the reason is perhaps its cost.
The deal will run from December 1 through February 13, but will be available only to iPhone owners in North America. After they trade-in their iPhone, customers must pay $599 to $699 for unlocked Passport smartphone through BlackBerry’s website or Amazon.
So, if you live in the US or Canada and have an iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, and 6 and you’re looking to get the BlackBerry Passport, this seems like the bet moment to do it. BlackBerry also informs that the trade-in amount comes in the form of a Visa prepaid card.
For many, this might seem like a desperate move, but it makes a lot of sense. Many previous BlackBerry customers have flocked to the Android and iPhone side and now the Canadian company is trying to win them back. And the BlackBerry Passport could prove to be an interesting proposal especially to those with productivity in mind.
BlackBerry’s global smartphone market share is now less than 1 percent, according to research firm Strategy Analytics. But BlackBerry seems to be on the right path with the Passport, as the company has reported good sales since the product has went up for preorders.
The Passport is also the company’s first flagship device since John Chen took over as CEO in November 2013. So how well BlackBerry fares in the coming months is not just a test for the company, but for its boss, as well.
