Remarkable New iPad 2 Case [Upated with Images]

News about the launch of the iPad 2 has been all over internet headlines and websites. It seems like just last year Apple launched the first iPad. Oh, wait it was 11 months ago! The new iPad comes with front and back cameras, is thinner, and lighter than the original. But perhaps one of the cooler things about the new device is its innovative cover. Apple calls it a “Smart Cover.” It’s the new case for the iPad 2, although not much of a case at all, and it comes in ten bright colors, five of which are in an aniline-dyed Italian leather ($69), and the other five in polyurethane ($39). The Smart Cover is a rectangular cover the exact size and shape of the iPad, and has a micro fiber lining on the screen side that is supposed to gently buff off any smudges or fingerprints that may be left on the screen from using the iPad. But, in typical Apple fashion, there’s more there than just good looks.

The new cover is first and foremost easily attachable. It connects with via two magnetic attachment clips that adhere to the left hand side of the device. Furthermore, the magnetic attachment is strong enough to lift the entire iPad by just holding the cover. Additionally, there is another magnet embedded in the cover that allows the iPad to know when it is closed. The iPad then has an option to go into sleep mode whenever the cover is fully attached. This can be adjusted under “Settings.”

The cover also folds up into a triangle like shape that acts as a stand. It then allows you to choose a slight elevation for typing or surfing the web, or you can stand up the iPad for video or FaceTime. So does this mean the iPad 2 has phone capabilities as well? Well, it actually allows you to contact other iPad 2, iPhone 4, or iPod Touch 4 user. Once connected to Wi-Fi, you can pull someone up from your contacts and invite them to do a Face Time call. This means no pesky unknown callers when on your iPad 2, and so no need for a reverse phone lookup. It is simply about calling any other iOS device with a camera or in other case you can also call users with Skype which as we are all aware works with most of the platforms, including computers.

The new iPad 2 is full of improvements and nifty features. Apple has again left no stone unturned with their Smart Cover to complete the ultimate portable handheld experience. I think all that’s left for many of us is just to wait for more innovation and a bunch of unexpected features in its next generation of tablets.
