Even though Nexus 6 was launched almost three years ago, it looks like Google isn’t done with it yet. Worth mentioning is that the Android parent even announced that Nexus 6 will not receive any further operating system updates. However, Google Android Git proves the otherwise. Reports are showing that Google has been spotted testing a special Android 8.0 build that’s compatible with Nexus 6, but does this mean that Nexus 6 will receive Android 8.0? Sadly, this is highly unlikely since Google has publicly confirmed that Android 7.1.1 Nougat will remain Nexus 6’s operating system.

Android 8.0 Nexus 6 Edition

As previously mentioned, Google will not provide Nexus 6 with any future software updates. However, the Android parent has guaranteed that Nexus 6 is set to receive all of 2017’s monthly security updates. With that being said, it seems that the reason why Google’s is working on the Nexus 6 Android 8.0 build is to be able to test security updates.

Everyone remembers last month’s security patch that somehow managed to cause Nexus 6’s Android Pay feature to malfunction. Google was even forced to roll out an operating system downgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat because it wasn’t able to fix the Android Pay issue via a OTA (over the air) fix. Google is definitely not looking to make the same mistake again and that’s why it first will test its security updates on the special build.

Nexus 6

Nexus 6 might be almost three years old but this isn’t stopping customers from still buying it. The smartphone is considered as being a customer favorite since it brings impressive specs for a rather cheap price. The only problem regarding Nexus 6 is that it won’t receive any more updates, but this can be solved through the use of custom ROMs such as LineageOS.

Nonetheless, Nexus 6 ships with a 5.96 inch AMOLED display that offers a high pixel resolution of 1440 x 2560 and a pixel density of 493 ppi. When it comes to hardware performance, Nexus 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s’ quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU that’s been clocked at 2.7GHz Krait 450.
