Google Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 Leaks – An Upgrade Available?
Google was indeed somewhat a disappointment when it came to the Nexus 6 users upon the release of the most recent Android 7.1.2 Nougat version. Briefly, what bothered many people was the fact that Google brought the update to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P phones, but left out Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. As bad as it may feel, this is the final proof that the tech giant finished offering support for the two devices. However, they are still on the list of eligible devices for the monthly Android update in 2017.
Google Is Selective
Even though initially the company declared that this represented just a maintenance update, it turns out that the file included 2 main features: Fingerprint gesture and Google Assistant. Up until now, these features were exclusive for Pixel, and Google brought them to other devices too.
Furthermore, Google should have offered Nexus 6 devices the Nougat update, since it is the last software version that the phone can receive. Despite this, the Nexus 6 users are now abandoned, while the company has decided to leave them with the maximum official update at Android 7.1.1.
There are lots of users who took to Reddit to express their dissatisfaction with Google’s decision. Many of them pointed out that this is totally unfair towards their own devices and some even claim that the Nexus 6 is too good a phone to find its end so soon. However, there are a couple of solutions for this. One of the most obvious ones is to upgrade your phone if you want to enjoy the latest OS version. But if you don’t want to do that, you can still wait and root the device yourself, which will allow you to install the Android Nougat final version.
