Sony Xperia XZ Premium vs Xperia Z5 Premium: Is It Worth Upgrading

It seems like Sony decided to take the Mobile World Congress event by storm since it unveiled three new smartphones during the event. Among those four smartphones, one stands out the most. Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the best device in that lineup. This smartphone is the company’s latest flagship device and it features 4K HDR display. Additionally, the smartphone is the successor of the 2015 Xperia Z5 Premium. Today we’re going to look under their hoods and see what are the differences.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium vs Sony Xperia Z5 Premium: Display

The main key selling point of Xperia Z5 Premium is its 5.5 inch IPS LCD panel which features a pixel resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels and a large pixel density of 806 ppi. Seeing how successful Xperia X5 Premium’s display has been, Sony decided to equip the new smartphone with the same display. Additionally, both panels feature X-Reality, HDR, Dynamic Contrast Enhancer and Triluminos.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium vs Sony Xperia Z5 Premium: Hardware Performance

While we weren’t able to see any differences in the display department, we can’t say the same about the hardware power department. First off, Xperia Z5 Premium is fueled by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset. The processor clocks at 2.0GHz and it is also coupled with 3GB of RAM and an Adreno 430 graphics processing unit. The smartphone also sports a non-removable Li-Ion 3,430 mAh battery.

On the other hand, the new Xperia XZ Premium is powered by Qualcomm’s latest octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset. The processor clocks at a higher speed of 2.45GHz and it is coupled with 4GB of RAM and an Adreno 540 graphics processing unit. The smartphone has also been fitted with a large non-removable Li-Ion 3,230 mAh battery. We think it’s pretty clear that Xperia XZ Premium is significantly more powerful in comparison with Xperia Z5 Premium.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium vs Sony Xperia Z5 Premium: Verdict

As everyone is able to see, the two smartphones are equals when it comes to display technology. Even though they are equal in the display department, the hardware performance difference is pretty big. We think it’s safe to say that upgrading to the new model is worth it.
