Amazon comes to India as Junglee.com

After a lot of speculation, Aamzon has finally launched its operations in India as Junglee.com. Currently, Junglee.com is still in beta however it already offers more than 1.2 crore products, from over 14,000 brands and hundreds of retailers.

Some of the major retailers include Homeshop18, The Bombay Store, UniverCell, Gitanjali, Hidesign, Bata India Limited, Fabindia, Reebok, Microsoft India Store and Amazon.com. However, users won’t be buying any times from Junglee as the government is yet to allow FDI in multi-brand retail for a non Indian company. Amazon masks this as a purchase decision on Junglee.com.

Amazon plans to organize the various products and provide simple buying options, making it easier for the customer to find anything right on Junglee. It also mentions that it includes more than 90 lakh books and 30 lakh products in more than 25 categories including, camera, mobile phones, music, movies & TV, toys & games, clothing, jewellery, kitchen & home products.

If you already are Amazon users, then you can use the same credentials to logging in on Junglee.com, it will also allow users to review products. Users can also like a particular product or seller.

Retailers will be allowed to upload their product catalog, free of charge using Amazon’s Product Ads program which retailers can use to direct traffic to their site if they have an online platform or to their customer care number/store location without even making a payment to Amazon. This program is free for now, but become a paid service later.

Its right time for Amazon to start its business in India. Few years back it would have been useless. But the FDI policy in India can certainly cause few troubles. I think the government will go little liberal on these matters for the sake of business.
